The attack on the former deputy speaker says a lot more about his attackers than any wrong he may be guilty of.

I had to come on here because the space on twitter is finite, Is beating up Ike Ekweremadu right or wrong? We all have watched the mob bashing of Ike Ekweremadu the former deputy speaker NASS. An incident allegedly carried out by members of Indigenous People of Biafra #IpoB  in Germany. As with all things some are in support of the assault and some like me are against the act.

Full disclosure

Before I go any further let me a make a full disclosure besides his name and his most recent political position I know nothing else about the man, Ekweremadu. I do not know on which side of the political divide he falls whether APC or PDP.

While I am political I have no interest in following the theatrical antics of Nigeria’s political class. ASFAIK they are unprofessional and more than half of them do not possess the prerequisite competency for the job of public governance, In other words my opinion on this matter is wholly neutral, objective and free of sentiment having said that, lets now get back to the gist of this article.

Beating up Ike Ekweremadu Right or Wrong?

It is wrong, barbaric, crude, uncouth, and a truly ugly sight to behold! Watching the video having no idea what the assaulted man looks like I figured  he must be the one with a torn garment! Outright Reprehensible behaviour — not only did they slap and punch but they also ripped his garment. The question is what type or kind of individuals engage in what appears as a street brawl– a show of disgrace, animalistic in all ramification

It doesn’t matter what a politician may have or not done assaulting him is a NO! and this behaviour should never be condoned as a matter of fact it is necessary to identify those involved and charge them with assault and battery

The attack on the former deputy speaker says a lot more about his attackers than any wrong he may be guilty of. Even though there has been several instances where we saw sitting senators scramble over a fence and generally acting like animals within the hallowed walls of NASS  it still doesn’t excuse the behaviour of this mob.

never follow the mob to commit crime

herd mentality rules the mob

The IQ and EQ Factor

Registering ones displeasure or dissatisfaction with a system, person, group of persons or any organisation is an acceptable social norm the way and manner in which we so register it says a lot about who we are, our worldview, philosophy and our state of mind.

If you are reading this and you are one of those who support  and believe that politicians deserve to be whooped, answer the questions below as honestly as possible

  1. Does an intelligent person without provocation get into a fist scuffle?
  2. Would an emotionally balanced individual with high EQ attack another to justify anger and frustration?
  3. Would you participate in this type of mob attack, If no, why?

Playing it differently

Nigeria is not the only country grappling with socio-economic and political challenges admittedly things are far worse here. Brexit and the Trump presidency have both created political upheaval in the UK and America respectively. Statistical data reveal political tension is a constant feature of our collective history with a persistent ebb and flow. I digress.

So could this group of Nigerians have acted differently than they did is what I intend to address in this final section.

It is important to point out the fact that the anger and frustrations of the group are legitimate, the political class has raped Nigeria and Nigerians for far too long and it is about time Patriots in the land step to the plate and salvage what is left of this country before the clueless band of political elite run the country over a cliff.

I suspect the intent of the ‘all men’ mob (I didn’t see any female in the vid) was to send a strong message across to the political elite back home which in itself is a fantastic idea however the method and approach the group employed is vile, regressive and uncivilized.

In their shoes and under the same circumstance I would play it as  outlined below:

Plan and stage a false arrest when target arrives venue

With camera rolling ask target questions as it affects groups primary political concern e.g. what policies or effort are you as representative of xyz people making to combat the problem of erosion in abc zone

Hard questions like this are asked and target is allowed to give informed responses if he has any.

Target is not likely to give coherent responses out of confusion and at any rate most politicians are actually as dull as ditch water only a handful of them are bright

After about 15minutes you turn him loose.

I bet the target will bolt away change his travel itinerary and return home, Pronto!

You have a good laugh and post the video of an embarrassed BUT not harassed politician onto SM

The rest of the thieving class (politicians) get the message they reckon outside of their glass mansions they must tread very carefully.

Under Tort law I will presume false arrest or shall we call it citizen’s arrest will be a lesser misdemeanor than assault

As a pacifist I frown at the use of violence to settle any type of score: political or otherwise and those who consider themselves democratic and yet have celebrated this mob attack I enjoin them to remember that When liberty comes with hands dabbled in blood it is hard to shake hands with her” — Oscar Wilde 1854-1900
